Relief Society Page

Dear Sisters,

Sorry for the two week hiatus!  Summer caught up with us and vacations threw us off track.  But we're back and apologize for any inconvenience the absence of this highly informative email may have caused :).

Today's lesson was about working towards Zion as individuals and as sisters in the Relief Society.  We specifically talked about being pure in heart and having the pure love of Christ.  President Monson's talk from the last Relief Society General Broadcast served as a guide for ways in which we can better ourselves and become more charitable.  He talked about not judging others, forgiving one's shortcomings and weaknesses and seeing the good in others.  Thank you to the sisters who shared their comments and testimonies.  Here's a quote that I find very helpful and motivating that captures the essence of the lesson:

"Real charity is not something you give away; it is something that you acquire and make a part of yourself… Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another’s weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us. Charity is expecting the best of each other… Be one who nurtures and who builds. Be one who has an understanding and a forgiving heart, who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them… If we could look into each other’s hearts and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care."

Next week's lesson is #37 Family Responsibilities from the Gospel Principles Manual.
Happy belated birthday to Nancy Cash (Aug. 23rd) and Wendy Yeomans (Aug. 28th), and happy birthday this week to Candice Malkin (today Sept. 4th), Jodi Watson (Sept. 6th) and Ashley Hoffman (Sept. 8th).
