To recap last week’s activity:
They say a PICTURE is worth a thousand words. If that’s true, we say that Nina’s pictures are worth 10,000 words! We truly cannot THANK Nina Seibert our resident photographer extraordinaire enough for the time and effort she put into her presentation. On Thursday June 9th we had Photography Night. Nina explained, "By following a few simple rules, armed with some easy tips, you can photograph with confidence." We appreciate her guidance and support in showing us all how we can take stunning photographs.
Some of my FAVORITE points directly from Nina were:
1. CATCHLIGHTS - A simple and very effective way to add life to your photos is to make sure you can see the reflection of your light source in your subject’s eyes. Tilt their head or turn them slightly until you see it and then snap the picture!
2. LIGHT – Search out the best light. Light is the single most important ingredient in any great photo. The light is best during early morning or early evening hours. Nina explained how she usually opts for indirect light because of its soft even properties. Here are a few places to find indirect light: Beneath a porch overhang, inside an open garage, underneath a tree, on the shady side of a building, & beneath an umbrella.
3. AT HOME - You can’t always take pictures at ideal times. Here are a few little tricks to use the light in your home: You can use windows where there is no direct light coming in. Bathtubs are ideal for bouncing light & creating clean bright photos. Open the door to create an ideal photo shoot.
4. PERSPECTIVE – Bring your camera with you wherever you go. Take a variety of shots of one situation – straight on, tilted, vertical, horizontal, zoomed out, cropped in close – to see which your favorites are. Here are some good suggestions from Nina to use when taking photos of your children: Get down on their level! Stand on a chair, lay on the ground, and get in their faces! Don’t stand still, MOVE, run, skip, jump!
I have only touched on a few of the many BRILLIANT tips Nina provided and I will close with her encouraging words, “I truly believe anyone can take great photos of their family. You don’t need to be a professional or have an expensive fancy camera to take meaningful, important photos that illustrate the best things in your life.”
Thank you to everyone who came and for those who missed it we hope to see you next time!
