On January 28th, we had our first Relief Society Activity of 2010. For those who were able to make it, we were so grateful to share such an awesome night with you! We wanted to let everyone know what we did, so that we could all be part of it.
For a long time we have prayed and fasted as a Relief Society Presidency to which needs the Lord wants us to try and meet for each other. We really felt that it would be most beneficial to find ways to unite and strengthen each other. We issued a challenge to all members of the University City 2nd ward to read the Book of Mormon by October 20th, averaging 2 pages a day. By doing this, we will gain an increased love of this great book, a stronger testimony of our Savior and a better understanding of the love of our Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ.
President Hinckley promised,
"Brothers and sisters, without reservation I promise you that if you will prayerfully read the Book of Mormon, regardless of how many times you previously have read it, there will come into your hearts an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord. There will come a strengthened resolution to walk in the obedience to His commandments, and there will come a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God."
We challenged everyone to read the Book of Mormon with a red pencil in hand, to truly study these words given to prophets by the Lord for our guidance today. Some specific things to think about marking are:
1) References to Jesus Christ
2) His words
3) His attributes
4) Doctrines and principles
We have a brand new copy of this wonderful book for every sister in our Relief Society, to help you with your fresh start, as we all unite in this great challenge in preparation to receive these great blessings. If you have not received your copy, please pick one up Sunday from Laura Dulin after the Relief Society meeting.
We want you to know that we love you, and that we feel so blessed to be given a glimpse of the love that Heavenly Father has for you. We are so excited to do this together.
