One of our neighbors is doing a really amazing project to help Haiti. Most organizations, including the church, are in need of cash donations right now, but even if we are cash-strapped, this is a project we could all donate to with ease. Sheryl has found an organization that accepts children's clothing, and she is collecting a LOT of it.
Here is the letter she sent us:
Help for Haiti!
As part of her “Creative Fix” project, artist and UCSD grad student Sheryl Oring is calling on San Diegans to donate 2,938 articles of baby and children’s clothing to help the children of Haiti – one piece of clothing for each mile that separates San Diego from Port-au-Prince.
Oring hopes to reach her goal by the end of February. The clothes will be donated to organizations that run orphanages in Haiti including Cross International, and to those contributing to the relief effort there, including the San Diego Jewish Academy.
Oring will be collecting clothes at a community garage sale at the Mesa graduate student housing complex at 3755 Miramar St. in La Jolla on Saturday Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon (weather permitting).
A clothing drop-box is located in the laundry room at 3755 Miramar Street in La Jolla. For big donations, Oring will organize private pick-ups.
Donations to help cover shipping costs are greatly appreciated.

(Please note: donated clothes should be clean and in good condition; keep in mind that Haiti has a tropical climate so no winter clothes are needed.)
